We are looking for a Production Manager who thrives in fast-paced, high-volume settings to join a market leader in the packaging industry.As the Production Manager, you will be the driving force behind optimizing production operations, ensuring the efficient operation of extruded film production. You will report directly to the Operations Plant Manager and will be responsible for leading a team of 30 professionals across a 3-shift system to maintain production excellence. Your leadership will be key in enhancing operational efficiency, ensuring quality products, and driving safety compliance within a 24/7 manufacturing environment.Main Purpose of the Role:
- Optimize Production (OEE) – Minimize Waste and Maximize People Performance
- Deliver consistent Quality Products as per Specifications
- Practice and live by the Company Vision & Values in all your Operational and Management responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare & Analyze the Production Plan: Ensure alignment with the Sales Plan and timely production delivery by reviewing the Stock Planner, developing the Production Plan based on sales forecasts, and submitting it to relevant departments. Monitor daily production performance, compare planned vs. actual outputs, address deviations or breakdowns, and make adjustments as needed. Maintain communication with operators and shift supervisors for smooth execution, while analyzing job cards to identify and explain any variances.
- Leadership and Team Development: You will lead a team of 30 professionals, ensuring alignment with operational goals and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Your role involves performance reviews, team mentoring, and coaching.
- Operational Oversight: You’ll manage the daily operations of an extruded film production line, ensuring machine performance, production quality, and minimal downtime. You’ll oversee stock and production reports, ensuring targets are met.
- Proactive Maintenance: Close collaboration with the Maintenance Department to reduce breakdowns and ensure smooth production operations. This includes managing critical spare parts and job card completion.
- Quality and Waste Control: Ensuring high product quality, conducting training on specifications, and minimizing waste generation through careful monitoring and corrective action.
- Safety and Compliance: Upholding safety standards and compliance with HSHE (Health, Safety, Health, and Environment) regulations, conducting incident investigations, and ensuring adherence to BRC and GMP standards.
- HR Management: Monitoring absenteeism, conducting return-to-work interviews, and collaborating with HR on disciplinary actions and staff management. You also have a direct involvement in team member appointments and labor relations
- Customer Relations: Managing customer complaints, diagnosing causes, and encouraging a customer-focused quality culture within the plant.
Requirements
- A Matric qualification, enhanced with additional technical or leadership studies.
- 10+ years of experience in production management within the plastics or polymers sector, with a proven track record in high-volume manufacturing.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience in motivating and developing teams to achieve exceptional results.
- Expertise in OEE and a continuous improvement mindset focused on cost-saving and optimization initiatives.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex challenges in a dynamic production environment.
